Things to do in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is one of the most historic cities in America.  Any time you are visiting Philly there are certain places that you just have to see.  Fortunately for you a lot of these places are free or very, very cheap.

The Liberty Bell Center

Go and see the Liberty Bell on 6th and Market St.  While you are there make sure to get a picture of it and Independence Hall in the background.

Independence Hall and Congress Hall

Have you ever wanted to see where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were born?  Here is the place to do it.

The Rocky Statue and the Rocky Steps

These are two of the most visited attractions in Philly.  If you do not stop and see these then you are missing out of pure Philly.  It’s like visiting without getting a cheese steak.

LOVE Sculpture

Philadelphia is known as the city of LOVE for a reason.  Check out this ever-popular statue at 1500 Arch St.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

The ultimate hangout spot, if you have a few dollars you can get something to eat from one of the vendors around the park.

Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest

This rink has boathouse-styled lodge, a play area for kids, food and drink options.  It does cost a little bit of money but you will not break your bank having fun at this place.

Once Upon a Nation Storytelling Benches

These are 13 storytelling benches where there are uniformed people waiting to tell you five-minute tales about some of the Nation’s earliest celebrities.

Franklin Square

Hanging out in this park is completely free and for a small fee there is carousel rides, mini-golf, burgers and more.

There are a large number of other cheap or free places in Philly that you can stop to see as well. There is The President’s House: Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation, Elfreth’s Alley, Carpenters’ Hall, Independence Visitor Center, United States Mint, Valley Forge National Historical Park, Institute of Contemporary Art, Bartram’s Garden, Christ Church, Edgar Allan Poe National Historical Site, Science History Institute, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Free First Sundays at the Barnes Foundation, Pay What You Wish at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pay What You Wish at the Rodin Museum, Free First Sundays at the Brandywine River Museum of Art, Student recitals at the Curtis Institute of Music, yoga classes,  and even free outdoor movies

Philadelphia has some amazing hotels ranging from $120 a night to $330 a night.  It depends on whether you want to stay at the top of the line best room, or if you are just looking for a place to shack the family up to see the sights around the town.  Philly also has awesome public transit options.  There is walking, bicycling, The Phlash Bus, Hop On, Hop Off Tours, public transit, taxis, car rentals and car sharing.  Of course there is also the standard Uber or Lyft if that is your choice of transport as well.
